Frequently Asked Questions »

Why do you need a Website for your business?
A website is an investment that will be an integral asset to your business. It tells consumers everything about your products, services, and business at a fraction of the cost of any other advertising, and it says it better. It is the most important and economical form of promotion around. Big companies spend a lot of time and money on their website because they realise that a onetime investment will increase the value of their business exponentially. Businesses that are not on internet need to realize that most of their clients are. Every small piece of promotional material that your business uses, whether on a card, a leaflet, a television commercial, a radio or newspaper ad, should point to your web site, helping your customers to decide on your business. Lastly, you can greatly reduce the cost of your other forms of advertising by using other promotion to point to your website. Brochures and product information can be designed to be downloaded from the internet to save you printing costs. If something on your brochure changes, it is little cost and effort to change it online.

What makes a successful Website?

For a website to be truly successful it needs to be intuitive and easy to use for first-time and repeat visitors. It should clearly show what your company has to offer, with the most important information prominently displayed. The points of sale need to be simplistic yet appeal to the target market. Therefore the text should be inviting to read, and the site should not be cluttered with useless information. As well as being accessible, it is important that your website is marketed effectively to appear in appropriate searches for your business.

What costs are involved with creating a Website?
There are normally four different types of cost involved in developing and operating a website. These are the purchase of a domain name, hosting, development and then update.

DOMAIN NAME COST: A domain name is the name by which visitors and search engines will reach your website. They can be purchased on a yearly basis from domain name registrars.
WEBSITE HOSTING COST: Typically, the cost for website hosting varies and is based on the overall size of the website, the amount of information transmitted to visitors.
WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT COST: The fee for designing the website.
PERIODIC COST TO UPDATE A SITE: Any additional fee every time a website is updated.

What is the design process?

We begin with a discussion of the client's business and what they want their website to accomplish. This can be done via email, telephone or in person. Then we discuss how the client wants the site to look, or any specific special features they want. Before creating a template we need to know what content will appear on the pages. In the initial meetings we will examine photos, graphics and images that will help to convey the personality of the site, how many pages will be needed, and the navigation for those pages. This will then be drawn into an initial sitemap to develop the website around. Using the sitemap we will create one or more website designs that best represent the client and will be easy to use for future visitors. The design is then presented to the client who is free to make changes and alterations. From here we will adapt those changes to create the final website. Depending on the project we may also create additional graphics or photographs. When all the pages are completed, the site is thoroughly tested for accuracy and then presented to the client for final review and testing. Once the client has reviewed and tested the website, we will make the site live on the Internet. This process involves electronically transferring the web pages to a hosting company and testing everything one last time. At this point, the website is fully operational and available to visitors on the Internet.

How long will the Website take to develop?
Normally it takes about 7-10 working days to develop a website. As each web page is completed, it is proofed for spelling accuracy and tested to make certain it appears correctly on various browsers and computers. Then, once all the pages are completed, the entire site is thoroughly tested by a team to make certain everything works correctly and that the site is easy to navigate. For most websites, it takes 7-20 working days to create the pages, completely test the site and present it to the client for their final testing. For sites having special requirements, such as those needing video, audio, or for sites created with flash components more time is usually required. The time to develop large size website (sites having over 80 pages) varies based on the features needed for the site and the number of web pages it requires. While some large size sites are completed in 5-6 weeks, others having several hundred pages may require two or more months to complete.

What information do you need to develop the Website?
We will need all the text that you would like to appear on each page of your site as well as any graphics you know you'd like included, such as a company logo, photographs, etc. If you already have prepared the content, great. If not we'll gladly help you create a comprehensive list of the information that will be needed and or help you to create that content. We can work with text created using most types of word processing programs such as Microsoft Word. Also, although we'd prefer to have the graphics (photographs, company logos, illustrations) supplied in an electronic format to ensure the best possible quality, we can scan it from paper originals, if needed to produce electronic copies. We can also create graphics and alter photos for the site if needed. If you would like us to write all the content, we will need as much information about your business and products as possible. Often this means collecting brochures, catalogues and so on and collating them into a user friendly version for the website, presented to the client for changes before the site is developed.

What information do you need to develop the Website?
Because the website is designed for you, the ownership of it transfers to you once full payment is received. You are free to make changes to it yourself, or contract with us to make changes whenever needed. The only thing we request is the ability to feature/showcase your website and company name in our portfolio.

What if we need to update the Website?
Over time a website will need updating. Some of these changes may be minor and others may be more extensive. Since we will already have a clear idea of your business, and we will have already worked together, we would love to continue helping you. However, if you choose to update it yourself, or contract with another designer, we will make that transition as easy as possible. Whatever you choose to do, it is completely up to you.
